My goodbye

I think over this year my writing has gotten better. Ive learned better transition words and gotten better at my grammer. I feel I now know how to write long paragraphs and make it sound interesting and well written. I hope next year I can become even better at writing and I really enjoy it! See you until next time

What to do with the blogs

I think that for the people that want to keep it should be able to keep it. And those who dont want to dont have to. Personally I dont think that I would write in it as much as I want to because of high school and all of the assignments I have to complete. Mr. Mayo  should give the weblogs over to the people that want them, so that he doesnt have to moderate everything that goes on the blogs anymore.

Last weekly post

Like everyother kid out there I am so excited for summer! I have so much going on its crazy. First I have promotion at school. It’s basiclly like graduation but for the 8th graders. Then I have a few days at home and then sunday the 14th I leave for Sandy hill camp. I will be there for two weeks. It’s my third year going there and probably my last. Then I come home for a few days, sometime in the first few weeks of July I will be going to New York with a couple of friends. Then I will come back and spend time at my beach house near the eastern shore. From there I will be going to Cape Cod in New Jersey with my friend of 8 years.  In august my brother is coming from england for a few weeks. When summer ends I finally start highschool!

Post one, two, and three!

In the 6 box worksheet the first event i drew was when Fredrick was at Colonel Loyds farm with more then 1,000 slaves. The second event i drew was when slaves would walk up in the woods to “the big house” and sing their heart out. It was a way to express their feelings. Usually if you were sent to “the big house” they thought you did something wrong and you were being punished for it. My 3rd event was when he was on the boat to Baltimore. He was so excited to get away from Colonel Lyod and just start a new life. This was on page 44. My fourth event was when Fredrick arrived at his new house in Baltimore. He steps up to his new house and see’s his master’s wife. He says “She had never had a slave previous of me and I was ashtonished at her goodness.” He said she was like an angel and it looked like she could harm no one. This was on page 47. Another event was when Fredrick was in a lake washing off when he saw two irish men. They advised him to “runaway north;that I should find friends and be free.” He wanted to but he didnt want to agree because they could find him runing away, catch him, and take him back to his master where he would get punished severly. This was on page 56. My last box was when Fredrick had to go back to the plantation because his master died. When he was there it was much different from when he was in Baltimore. He said he “was now made to feel the gnawing of hunger” This was on page 64.

One passage I thought was important was when he said “We slaves loved Mr.Cookman, we believed him to be a good man.” I think this is important because this is one of the only slave owners he thought was decent. All of the others were barbaric and cruel. Another passage I thought was important was “Mr.Gore told him he had three calls. One, Demby made no reponse. The second and third calls were given and the same result. Mr. Gore then without consultoin raised his musket to his face taking deadly aim at his standing victim and in an instant poor demby was no more.” This is intresting because it showed that if slaves wanted to fight in what they believed was right then they would get killed. My last passage was when he said “It was now the first time in a space of seven years that I felt the knawings of hunger.” This shows what a difference Baltimore and the plantation is. In Baltimore they kept their slaves well fed and with well manners. On the plantation they had no manners and were fed mush.

I think the theme of this story is hopeful. Alot of slaves tried to stand up for what they thought was right and tried to stand up for change. One thing was slaves tried to runaway in hoping to find a better life. Another example is when Demby just stood in the lake and not listening to his overseer. He wanted to stand up for what he thought was right.

Reflection of Darfur

I remember the first day I learned about Darfur. I became very intrested in the conflicts and the whole class did too. Im glad I had this chance to do my little part in trying to help stop the genocide. I wish I could do more and I know I will continue to do whatever possible. Ive learned so much about it and im glad I got the chance to inform others about the genocide. I wish my class and I could spend the whole year doing more for Darfur and im sad that our project is ending. I know that we will never forget about Darfur and continue to learn more.

Darfur Comment

In my Darfur comment I was thinking of saying:February of 2008 was the 5th year anniversary of the genocide in Darfur. So far 45,000 have been displaced from their homes and thousands killed. First someone in a helicopter bombs one of the villages in Darfur. Then the janjaweed come in on horseback and shoot at random. Lastly after their done they set the whole village on fire. Men have been shot, women have been raped, and children have been separated from their parents. They dont deserve this and we need to put a stop to it!
